The Wheelchair Project: Empowering Lives Through Mobility
Give the Gift of Mobility and Independence
Your support can help us provide life-changing wheelchairs to vulnerable individuals in Uganda
The Need: Why Mobility Matters
In Uganda, countless children and adults face immense challenges simply because they lack access to mobility aids. Without wheelchairs, they are often confined to their homes, unable to attend school, work, or even navigate the clay pathways and rugged roads of their villages.
The rural environment in Uganda poses unique obstacles—there are no sidewalks, and many roads are unpaved. For those with disabilities, this means an already difficult life becomes nearly impossible.
Mobility isn’t just about movement; it’s about dignity, opportunity, and independence. By providing access to affordable, all-terrain wheelchairs, we can empower individuals to break free from the barriers that hold them back and embrace a brighter future.
Our Mission: How We’re Making a Difference
Did you know that 80% of people needing mobility aids live in low-income countries?
At The Ssengooba Foundation, we believe mobility is a fundamental human right. Our mission is to provide high-quality, durable wheelchairs that are specifically adapted to the rugged, unpaved roads and pathways of rural Uganda.
We’re partnering with local experts, like Yasin and our team, to make this project sustainable. With your support, we aim to:
Source and assemble wheelchairs locally, reducing costs and empowering communities.
Equip each wheelchair with modifications suited for uneven and clay-based terrains.
Deliver these life-changing wheelchairs to children and families who need them most.
This isn’t just about mobility—it’s about restoring hope and independence. A wheelchair means a child can attend school, a parent can work to support their family, and individuals can fully participate in their communities. Together, we can turn obstacles into opportunities.
Our goal is to raise $1000 to provide five wheelchairs by March 2025
How You Can Help: Your Role in This Journey
Every donation to the Wheelchair Project brings us closer to empowering someone with the gift of mobility. A wheelchair in Kampala costs just $200—an amount that can change a life forever.
Here’s how your contribution makes a difference:
$50: Covers essential parts for assembly.
$100: Funds half the cost of a wheelchair.
$200: Provides one fully equipped, all-terrain wheelchair.
Every dollar counts, and no amount is too small. Whether you donate $10 or sponsor an entire wheelchair, your kindness will transform lives.
Together, we can ensure that more children and adults in Uganda experience the freedom and independence they deserve.
Donate today to help us reach our goal of raising $1000 and provide mobility to those who need it most.
Stories of Hope: Help Vicente Gain Mobility
In the Wakiso district of Uganda, 7-year-old Vicente dreams of playing with his siblings and attending school, but life has not been easy for him. Though born healthy, Vicente contracted polio, which left him unable to move independently without a wheelchair.
His mother, Mary, works tirelessly as a farm laborer to support Vicente and his five siblings, doing everything she can to provide for their needs. Despite her efforts, the challenges of raising six children alone, combined with Vicente’s lack of mobility, are overwhelming.
For Vicente, a wheelchair is more than a mode of transportation—it is a lifeline to opportunity, education, and freedom. It means he could navigate the clay pathways of his village, attend school, and interact with his peers, experiencing the joys of childhood that every child deserves.
Your support for Vicente’s wheelchair can help restore his independence and give him the chance to thrive. Together, we can turn his dreams of mobility and a brighter future into reality.
